Construction project manager Joe Hoekstra of Mondo was also the project manager for the Beijing Olympic Games track and other Olympic Games tracks

Baypark Speedway Association

Original Baypark Speedway facility closed in 1995 because of encroaching housing and increasing rates. New Baypark Speedway facility designed by Bob Clarkson and Baypark Speedway Association in 2001. Agreed to be speedway home “indefinitely”

Bob Clarkson spent $24 million dollars to construct the Baypark state of the art purpose built speedway facility complete with seating for 17000. Rugby has been played here successfully. Bob Clarkson sold Baypark Speedway to the Tauranga City Council at a discounted price of $12 million dollars in 2007 gifting the balance and capital gain to the Tauranga City Council.

Current lease with the Tauranga City Council until 2029.

TCC has not listed any reasons for the removal of Speedway from Baypark. Speedway Meeting 5 November 2022 attracted over 9000 spectators including large groups of families. Speedway runs 14 meetings per season contributing hugely to the local economy.

TCC has told Speedway to move “to somewhere” at a cost of $250 million ++, ignoring the “forever home” clause in the lease as was agreed years ago.

Tauranga Croquet Club

Croquet played at the Tauranga Domain since 1902. From 1909 to 1922 croquet and tennis were a combined club. Croquet was very popular in the 1930s and in 1948 the club held its first annual tournament

Club was incorporated in 1964. Club house built in 1974, 80% of funds from members loans. Lawns and irrigation system created, maintained and funded by hard work of members. 100 years of association with the Tauranga Domain

Current lease with Tauranga City Council runs out in 2029. TCC has told croquet it will be relocated. No more detail provided.

Tauranga Bowling Club

Club is being moved.

Tauranga Lawn Tennis Club

Has been on the site since 1909. Ten Astro turf courts, all with floodlighting. Club is always investing in upgrading the facilities to attract top tennis. Currently upgrading the changing area.

Two level clubhouse with all facilities.

TLTC cherishes the ambience of the Tauranga Domain and the range of community sports that are being played in the domain. The club recognises that the Te Papa intensive housing plan of TCC will create a new local community of up to 40,000 in the next 10 years and that Tauranga Domain will be the only large green space in this area. The Domain must remain a green space where community sports are played.

TCC have told the club two courts are to be relocated and all tennis car parking will be taken away.
