Objections and Submissions to the Active Reserve Masterplan

Lack of Consultation.

Masterplan was released to the public on 29 September 2022 and the hearing, which endorsed the Masterplan was held on 3 October 2022. 4 days!!!!

Relocations of sporting venues will cost hundreds of millions of dollars, but the commissioners have only budgeted $18 million dollars for this. The commissioners have no idea how much the relocations will actually cost, but the commissioners are proceeding .anyway

Proposed boutique stadium at the Tauranga Domain is too small for big rugby games, is too big for other rugby games, and there can never be adequate parking for 15,000 people.

Baypark Speedway is to be demolished and relocated to a yet to be determined venue

Croquet is to be demolished and relocated to a yet to be determined venue

The all weather athletic track is to be relocated to a site at Baypark that is too small without due diligence having being done

Tennis is losing its parking and having two courts being inconveniently affected

There is no coherent business case developed for the stadium.

There is no funding available, it will all fall on the ratepayer. Cost estimate now exceeds $450 million for all the building, changes and relocations.

Business Case for the Tauranga Domain Stadium is totally Defective and Misleading

TCC is working hard on producing a compelling Business Case for the Stadium to present to the Commissioners around the end of March 2023. However from discussions with the project team of consultants, the Business Case will NOT include

the cost of relocating the evicted sporting clubs and their requirements, or the cost of relocating Speedway

the loss of revenue to Tauranga businesses by evicting Speedway. Speedway is the largest sporting event in Tauranga and has 18 meeting per year with followers coming to stay and watch from all over the North Island.

The Business Case will also not include a current Usage Summary of the numbers of people using the Tauranga Domain sporting facilities each week.

Where is the Business Case for retaining the status quo?

What is the value of a park? In 20 years time?

Effects of Stadium on Tauranga Lawn Tennis Club

1. All tennis carparking will be removed and not replaced. The courts are used throughout the day and evenings with senior and junior (children) play and coaching. Parking is paramount to the success of the club.

2. TLTC runs many national senior tournaments during the year and the current configuration of the courts provides a consistency (eg wind effect, sun location etc) for all players regardless of the court they play on. Moving two courts to wherever they may fit does not work and does not maintain the consistency of the existing layout.

3. The current court configuration is ideal for both spectators and players.

4. The work involved in relocating the courts and fixing the existing courts and services is much larger than you think, eg new drainage, new lighting, new landscaping etc.

5. The stadium will create completely new wind effects on the courts as it will be built on the boundary of the courts. Cutting down the large trees on the cliff will open the courts up to the howling westerly winds.

6. Noise and other pollution from stadium comings and goings are worrisome and cannot be predicted but will affect the ambience of the facility and desirability of playing tennis at Lawn.
