Online Petition about the Active Reserves Plan

Priority One, Tauranga City Council and the Commissioners have been quietly developing the Active Reserves Plan which rearranges and deletes sports and amenities at Tauranga Domain (to build a stadium), Blake Park and the Baypark Arena.  At the end of this expensive reshuffle, Tauranga will be left with no new amenities at all and the destruction of the Speedway, Athletics Track, Bowling Club, Croquet Club, sports halls at Mt Maunganui and sports clubs which may not be replaced.  The total cost of this plan may exceed $500 million.

NOTE: The Council does not propose to put the athletics track in the same space at Baypark Arena from where Speedway is being evicted from.

At the end of the day, you, the ratepayer will pay.  Is this value for money?   Have you been consulted by the Commissioners and Tauranga City Council?

Tauranga Domain will no longer be a community place where you can stroll on to whenever you like. It will no longer be a green haven in the heart of the city.  Instead, it will be a commercial enterprise with “gates to shut out the public”.  No more just turning up and letting your children run around the track and have fun. This opportunity is going to be done away with.

It looks as if the stadium will be fast tracked under urgency without full public engagement or consultation.
