Multi Use Arena Tauranga Domain Online Survey

Priority One, Tauranga City Council and the Commissioners have been quietly developing the Active Reserves Plan which

  1. Proposes a Multi Use Arena/Stadium for up to 17,200 people (8000 permanent seats and between 6200 to 9200 temporary seats) in Tauranga Domain with no additional car parking

  2. In Tauranga Domain, the Council will remove the existing world class athletics track, evict the Croquet and Bowling clubs and rearrange the Tennis club to make enough room to build the stadium..

  3. Tauranga Domain will no longer be a community place where you can stroll on to whenever you like. The Tauranga Domain end of the Tauranga-Wharepai Domains will no longer be a green haven in the heart of the city.  Instead, it will be a commercial enterprise with limited access to the public. No more just turning up and letting your children play on the playground, run around the track and have fun.

  4. Cities need green spaces, especially downtown Tauranga with the planned urban intensification and population growth. Tauranga Domain is the only remaining large green space in Te Papa and half of it will be lost if this stadium proceeds.

  5. Speedway is being evicted from Baypark Arena and, while no details have been released, it seems the Speedway stadium and grandstand are to be demolished. No details have been given by TCC about the cost of relocating speedway and who will foot that bill.

The Multi Use Arena/stadium is being fast tracked under urgency without full public engagement or consultation. To date there have been no firm costings or business plan presented by the Council..
